If your looking for 500 pages of detailed exhaustive text about ancient Egypt, then this isn't the book for you. But if you like to see the amazing art, sculptures framed with some rational order and grouping with some good summary's of the various aspects of Egypt then this a great book. Its a great intro into what Egypt was like (as we'ev come to interpret it) its history, its art, its religions (note the plural), its trades, crafts, daily life, etc. There are probably 2 or 3 pictures on every page, and they show you what the text is summarizing or explaining. It seems to me, that Egypt was all about how it looked...the visual was all important to that society, and its arts,monuments, and artifacts exhibit that.
